Cute & Easy Thrifty Gifts: Wearable Flower Pins

I was shopping at Bath & Body Works works the other day and came across these super cute gift toppers for $2 each!

The instant I saw them I knew I had to have them, and I had bigger plans than just topping a gift.

I wanted to make some decorative pins to give as gifts!

I already had the supplies I needed to pull this off. (Adhesive Bar pins, thread, and a needle).

I started by cutting off the little ribbons that were attached. Then I added the adhesive backed bar pins. I then sewed the bar pins to give them a bit more stability for wear & tear.

so they are a bit off centered )

So there you have it....super CUTE, fast & easy Wearable Flower Pins. These would make great last minute gifts for your friends, sisters, moms, aunts, grandmas, even teachers! Great project for those on a budget too!

Up cycled Thrift Store Ornaments

Last week my youngest & I went to LaCrosse to try and "almost" finish up the Christmas shopping. We got all but 4 people done. We went into one of my FAVORITE consignment shops called "What a Girl Wants". For you women readers out there, this is a wonderful shop! They have everything a girl would want there: purses, jewelry, clothes, shoes, home decor & so much more! I take things there to sell quite often. Especially during the fall & winter months. (BTW...they are also on Facebook, where they post specials & discounts ....find them here!)

While there I came across some vintage ornaments. Now the peach & mint green colors really aren't my favorite color choices, but I LOVED the shapes.

So for 49 cents I got 2 deer, 2 doves, a goose & teddy bears (about 8 cents each!!!).

I started off by taking off the flowers & ribbons that were just hot glued on. And removing the gold thread hangers. They all came off very easily. (I did save the hangers to put back on after they were painted....I also saved the peach & mint colored ribbons & flowers for a possible future project,you know me: I don't throw ANYTHING away!!!!)

I just primed them with spray paint primer, and then spray painted them the colors I really wanted:

Green, silver & white.

Once the spray paint dried I sprayed them once again, this time with spray adhesive. Then I generously sprinkled them with glitter. I tapped off the excess glitter &

WHOLA!!!

The green ornaments are a bit more green then the picture shows & they are all super sparkly!

I am keeping a few for my own tree.

And giving some for cute present toppers on my gifts.

OWLS...Ceramic Animals=LOVE

The latest craze around blog land and the decorating world is ceramic animals. Especially from two of my UBER FAVORITE blogs....Bower Power & Young House Love.

I couldn't wait to get them home & give them their "NEW" look! A white spray paint makeover!

Mr. Potato Head Pumpkins

I found these Mr. Potato Head Pumpkin Kits a few years back super clearanced out at Target for like pennies. I put them away & forgot I had them. :) I wonder if there are others out there who do this?!?

Well anyway I found them as I was going through stuff this year & brought them out for my kiddos to decorate the pumpkins with.

I have to say they were worth it. The kids had fun making them & it was VERY EASY, with VERY LITTLE MESS! SCORE for Mama!

The Company Store Outlet SCORE!

Yesterday my youngest son & I went on a little shopping excursion (I am taking advantage of my oldest being back in school :). We headed east to LaCrosse, Wisconsin (only 25 mins to the border from where we live in MN). They have a ton of thrift stores, consignments, and they also have a Company Store Outlet store since LaCrosse is where their corporate headquarters is located. We hit the outlet first & check out what we SCORED!!!

Now this little tissue box was SUPER cute. And as you know, my little one has a BUG theme in his room, but he also has a thing for PIRATES! He has been a pirate for Halloween 3 times in his 5 year life! :)

This tissue box normally retails for $12.99 which really isn't too bad, BUT I scored it for $1.99 which is EVEN BETTER! And although it doesn't match 100% in my Little man's room, the color scheme does & thus it is a purchase that made him VERY HAPPY!(I have learned in life you pick your battles, and this one was obviously minor)

The throw pillow cover went with their Bug's Quilt last season. I found this one all tucked away in a clearance bin for $1.99 too. This item retails $22 regularly. So for $4.20 I walked out of there with a big smile on my face &

happy with the treasures I found!!!!

My son was HAPPY too!

Then we headed over to the new Goodwill. They just opened it a few weeks ago. It is a BRAND NEW building built just for Goodwill. I had a few things on my list, but now I needed to find a throw pillow to stuff my new Bug pillow with. (I found some other treasures too, but will post about them later)

And for $1.99, I could totally handle that! So for about $6.00 I outfitted my son's room with some "High Quality" accessories!

DIY Jewelry Holder 2 Tier Stand

Here is my latest thrift store find. I found it for $1.00 at my local Salvation Army. It's not bad as it is, but I wanted to make it spectacular!!

BEFORE

I started by cleaning it up really well. Once it dried & spray painted it with Krylon Outdoor Spaces Satin Finish spray paint in the color Watermelon #2922 (Walmart).
Once dry, I then finished it off with a glossy clear top coat & WHOLA A 2 tiered jewelry stand. You could use it for other things too but this is exactly what my jewelry needed :)
